On Sunday evening, Guoan Football Club won their first game of the Chinese Super League season at home against Shanghai SIPG. The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at Guoan's home stadium and it was a tense affair as both teams were looking to get off to a strong start.
The opening stages of the match were closely contested, with both sides creating chances but unable to find the back of the net. However, in the 25th minute, Guoan midfielder Ye Shi found himself on the end of a brilliant move from his teammates, and he slotted home the winning goal from close range to give his team the lead.
Shanghai SIPG tried to come back into the game in the second half, but they struggled to create any meaningful chances. In the 76th minute, Guoan substitute Zhang Ziyu scored his first goal for the club, putting the match beyond Shanghai SIPG's reach.
Despite conceding a late equaliser from a penalty kick, Guoan held on to secure their first win of the season, and it was a much-needed boost for the team after a disappointing start to the campaign. With this win, Guoan now sit top of Group A in the Chinese Super League table, and they will be hoping to continue their good form when they face Shandong Luneng Taishan next week.
